This project has been as much about how we do things as what we do. We adopted a reflective practice throughout the process but found it tricky (despite some great ideas for how) to capture leanings as we go.

2020-2021 Learning

We hosted a 3 hours learning session at the end of this first phase in Oct 2021 where we took the time to reflect, listen and share. We were joined by graphic facilitator Abdul Dube who supported the visual capturing of the journey, our lessons and insights. The visuals from this session are below.

Conversation 1: The transformative governance journey

On talking through our journey of this work we realised:

• how much pre and relational work took place before the proposal was confirmed (~6months Aug-Dec 2020)
• how often we underestimate the time it takes to set things up and deliver work (we originally thought we’d be done by July but we only confirmed budget approach in May and it really took to November to deliver the work)
• the importance of naming and working with power and privilege early on

Conversation 2: Can you identify a particular moment during our learning journey together when you gained a new insight or experienced something unfamiliar that felt important to you?

Conversation 3: What has felt challenging or difficult about being part of this collaboration?

Conversation 4: When has the work flowed easily or felt satisfying? Can you identify what enabled this for you?

We closed the session with a few words of gratitude and appreciation of rate qualities each person brought to the work. It felt uncomfortable to hear and receive this level of gratitude, but was a beautiful way to close this phase together.
